This trip focuses on two of the top national parks in Zambia – South Luangwa National Park and Lower Zambezi. You will be able to explore 03 different camps in South Luangwa before heading to your cap at Lower Zambezi. The safaris here will amaze you.

South Luangwa National Park, Lower Zambezi

Day 01: Arrival to Zambia on to South Luangwa National Park

Welcome to Zambia! Complete immigration and airport formalities after you land at the Lusaka at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN). From here, you’ll take another flight to Mfuwe. When you arrive at Mfuwe Airport (MFU), a representative will be waiting to take you to the camp where you will stay for the first three nights.

Check in to your hotel as per standard check in time and relax.  The evening is free for you to relax and unwind and settle in after your flight.

Day 02 & Day 03: South Luangwa National Park

For the next two days, you will rise early and venture into the magnificent South Luangwa National Park to participate in professionally-guided game viewing activities. Keep an eye out for elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, hyenas, impalas, buffalos, and more. The park is teeming with wildlife, which experienced guides will help you spot.

South Luangwa National Park is also unique because of endemic three subspecies: Thornicroft’s giraffes, Cookson’s wildebeests, and Crawshay’s zebras. It is also one of the few parks in Africa that allows night drives— a unique and exciting safari experience.

Depending on the weather and time of year, you might be able to participate in a walking safari. These provide a fascinating, more detailed view of park ecology and wildlife.

Spend your time at your camp / lodge on game drives and walks, as the area is famous for its incredible richness of wildlife species. Get close to the animals at the photography hide and viewing deck, and unwind at the spa, hot spring, and swimming pool.

You can also visit a local Kuanda community village to learn more about the local people and their customs. Your guide will accompany you during these visits to advise you on correct behaviour and courtesy. You’ll spend three hours visiting the village and learning about the daily life, traditions, and culture of the Kuanda people. The locals host many international visitors and are happy to share their culture and ways of life.

Day 04: Transfer to another Camp in South Luangwa National Park

After breakfast this morning, a driver will pick you up and take you to another camp.

Roughly 3-hours south of Kafunta River Lodge and even more tranquil, Island Bush Camp provides almost complete solitude. With five chalets on stilts—each one open and overlooking the river—you’ll have fabulous views from the comfort of your room. En-suite bathrooms have flushing toilets, cold running water, and a bucket of hot water is provided once a day for a bucket shower.

Your safari and outdoor activities for the day are focused on walking, so wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

Day 05: Walk from Island Bush Camp to Three Rivers

Today, you have the option of walking 4 miles (7 km) from Island Bush Camp to the secluded Three Rivers Camp, which is a highly recommended experience. The staff will take care of transporting your luggage to Three Rivers Camp

Three Rivers is a solar-powered eco-camp that is set at the confluence of the Luangwa, Kapamba, and Lusangazi Rivers. The stylish tents are decorated with natural materials and lay under shady trees. Your cozy accommodation will offer views of the Luangwa River and the game-rich lagoon. Each tent has its own deck with comfortable chairs so you can enjoy the views. The en-suite bathrooms have double sinks, flushing toilets, and offer both indoor and outdoor showers. Mosquito nets are provided in each room so you can sleep comfortably.

Here you will be able to go on more game drives and hikes.

Day 06: Day at Leisure

Today the day is at your leisure. Book activities like safari drives, nature walks, bird watching outings, and more.

Day 07: South Luangwa – Zambezi

Today, after breakfast your driver will take you back to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Zambezi. This flight will have a layover in the capital of Lusaka, and when you land in Zambezi, you will be met by your Camp staff member and transferred to the lodge. Depending on when you arrive, you may have an opportunity to go on an afternoon game drive. (Flight cost is not included in the package costing)

Day 08 & Day 09: Lower Zambezi National Park

You have two full days here to enjoy game drives, canoeing, river cruises, nature walks, bird-watching, and more.

Lower Zambezi National Park is in southern Zambia, on the Zimbabwean border. In the south, the Zambezi River valley is known for abundant wildlife, including buffalo, fish eagles and herds of elephants. Canoes ply the river, which is home to hippos and crocodiles. In the east, the river passes past the striking red cliffs of Mupata Gorge, with its fish-filled waters. North is the steep and rugged Zambezi Escarpment.

Day 10: Lower Zambezi – Lusaka

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up at camp and transfer you to the airport for your flight to Lusaka. From Lusaka, you can connect to your international flight.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

We need to receive a cancellation request in writing for us to proceed with cancellation. The following charges will be applicable based on the cancellation request received by us.

• If you cancel –
  • 60 days prior to departure there will be a 10% deduction on the package cost.
  • 59 – 45 days prior to departure: 25% deduction on the package cost.
  • 44 – 30 days prior to departure: 45% deduction on the package cost.
  • 30 – 15 days prior to departure: 65% deduction on the package cost.
  • 15 – 07 days prior to departure: 95% deduction on the package cost.
  • 06 days or less: 100% deduction on the package cost.

• Most hotels in Europe have occupancy policy per room. They will generally not allow more than 03 people in one room (based on the room size).

• If certain entrances are closed during certain periods, alternative entrances will be provided.

Covid Guidelines (If any): The new Covid-19 ‘Omicron’ variant is of global concern. Flights may be disrupted. Tightened restrictions are in place. You’ll need proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken 72 hours prior to departure from your country of origin, using an approved laboratory through the Trusted Travel platform. Quarantine arrangements may depend on your travel arrangements and may change at short notice. If you’re travelling from a high risk country you’ll be required to quarantine for 10 days at your own cost (see ‘Travel’). Contact your nearest Zambian Embassy or Consulate for details. If you’re leaving Zambia, you’ll need a medical certificate confirming you’ve had a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test.

Your Health: It is your (Traveller’s) responsibility is to ensure that you are in good health and medically fit to undertake safari tour. If the tour passes through the malaria area, precautionary treatment is advised. Consultation with medical practitioner/doctor and obtaining prophylactic and precautionary anti-malaria treatment is necessary.

Local Currency: Zambian Kwacha (ZMW)

The Zambian Kwacha is a decimal type of currency with K1 being made up 100 ngwee. Before Zambia’s independence in 1964, the country then known as Northern Rhodesia used the British pound as legal tender before migrating to the Kwacha in 1965.

1 USD = 16.5 ZMW approximately. (As on 22 Dec 2021)

The official currency of Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha (ZMK) which fluctuates quite regularly. As of Jan 2013, Zambia rebased the currency dividing by 1000.

• Kwacha note denominations are K100, K50, K20, K10, and K2
• Coins are in denominations of K1 and 50, 10 and 5 Ngwee

Preferably use only the services of a designated Bureaux de Change and keep up-to-date with the most recent exchange rate.

At most southern African border posts, you can exchange USD at the border for local currency – but you won’t get a favourable exchange rate, and are bound to come across informal money changers. Be very aware of scam artists, fake bills, and paper fillers!

The most practical items to pack for your Zambia safari are:

• Clothes in khaki, green, beige and neutral colours
• Long-sleeved shirts that offer protection from the sun and mosquitoes
• T-shirts
• Shorts or a light skirt
• Jeans or safari trousers for evenings and cooler days
• Jackets and sweaters for early morning and late afternoon game drives
• A lightweight waterproof jacket in case of rain
• Swim and beachwear
• Comfortable walking shoes
• Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent, moisturiser and lip salve
• Binoculars and camera equipment

The luggage allowance on small flights is usually limited to a maximum of 20 kg (44 lbs), which includes hand luggage, so please bear this in mind when packing. Most lodges and camps provide a same-day laundry service for your clothes.

People: The area of modern Zambia is known to have been inhabited by the Khoisan and Batwa peoples until around AD 300 when migrating Bantu began to settle around these areas. Its is believed the Khoisan people groups originated in East Africa and spread southwards around 150,000 years ago.

With a population of less than 15 million, Zambia comprises an amazing 72 ethnic groups, most of which are bantu-speaking. About 90% of the population fall into 9 major ethnolinguistic groups: the Nyanja-Chewa; Bemba; Tonga; Tumbuka; Lunda; Luvale; Kaonde; Nkoya; and Lozi.

Zambia is also home to a thriving Asian community, predominantly of Indian and Chinese origin, numbering around 100,000, as well as a number of European expatriates, some of whom were invited to settle in Zambia by the local government having been cast off their farms in neighbouring Zimbabwe.

All this makes Zambia home to a vibrant mix of cultures, traditions and peoples, and Zambia is also widely-considered to be one of the friendliest and most welcoming nations in the world.

Climate: Zambia experiences a predominantly sub-tropical climate characterized by three distinct seasons: a hot and dry season (mid-August to mid-November), a wet rainy season (mid-November to April) and a cool dry season (May to mid-August). … The hot months are very dry, receiving almost no rainfall between May and August

Safety and Security:  Petty theft is as common as any major city where unemployment is high. Be very awake when walking around carrying anything of value, there are master pickpockets here and there. Never leave your vehicle unlocked and never change money on the streets. For the most part, however, Zambians are very friendly and helpful.

As far as personal safety is concerned, one could easily hitchhike alone throughout the country without a problem. Theft however is possible in the bigger towns and cities as it is the world over. Don’t walk around with things you can’t do without, like your passport or airline tickets. Carry minimum amounts of cash and keep it hidden or in a money belt and if possible, don’t leave your car unattended. This is less of a problem in the rural areas.

Staying safe on Wildlife Viewing Activities: Your safari guide will ensure your safety at all times – listen carefully to instructions and follow the park’s rules at all times. When on a self-drive safari, don’t drive too close to wildlife and only leave your car in designated areas where it is safe to do so.

Staying safe in Cities and Towns: Crime is common. Security risks increase after dark, especially in tourist areas and city centres. Stay alert to your surroundings. Avoid walking alone or travelling after dark. Avoid all demonstrations, political rallies and large public gatherings as they can turn violent. There have been violent robberies (some involving fatalities) along the Cairo Road area of Lusaka, including Chachacha, Freedom Way and Lumumba Roads. Keep vehicle doors locked, windows up and valuables out of sight, even when moving. Date-rape drugs have been used in bars and restaurants in Lusaka. Always keep a close eye on your food and drinks. If you’re not sure it’s safe, leave it. Commercial fraud scams are common in Zambia. Don’t send money to anyone in Zambia until you’ve undertaken proper checks.
